My father passed away 9 years ago, and according the the NC Treasury he has unclaimed property listed as Indiv Policy Benef/Clm Payments. Does anyone know what this means? Is this a policy that was unclaimed or is just payments he made? I'm confused... Thanks for your help.|||This is very common, as all states are collectively "Holding" unclaimed property that they are just waiting to return to individuals. Every company is required to report and remit any uncashed or unclaimed items after a set dormancy period. In your case an insurance company has reported and remitted funds to the State of North Carolina in the name of your deceased Father. This is likely from some sort of accident he was in.
As long as you are the beneficiary of his estate you have the right to claim these funds. North Carolina is somewhat more active than other states in proving ownership rights. They will more than likely require you to provide a death certificate, paperwork naming you executor of his estate, they will also like a copy of your drivers license and SSN card to verify that you are who you say you are. Also they will need a completed claim form. It is important to note that the claim form must be notarized if the amount is greater than $50.00.
Hope this helps.|||It means that something is unclaimed. It does not mean that it is a policy. It does not mean that it is not a policy. It does not mean that it is payments. It does not mean that it is not payments. The only things it means are (1) it is something, and (2) it was not yet claimed when they last updated the list.
No one can tell from the information you provided whether it is a policy or it is just payments. That information is not included in the listing.|||It looks like a claim payment was issued to him or his estate (could be house insurance, car insurance, life insurance, health insurance), but the check was never cashed.
Whoever was executor or administrator of his estate, can contact them and get the details.|||There should be a phone number or address right there on the NC Treasury Unclaimed Funds page that tells you what to do next. Ask them.|||did you probate his will? ask an attorney.|||Get free money now! Enter your name, address, SSN.....
